You come home after a long day waiting around at the store. In your hands is a fresh copy of Kingdom Hearts Online, and you eagerly tear into it and the latest model of VR headwear. You get comfortable on your bed and log into the game, creating your avatar and selecting your starting world. Things go smoothly until you try to log out. Where's the logout button? An announcement appears before you, overtaking your menu screen as a hooded figure begins to speak. You are not allowed to leave this game until you manage to clear all of the worlds and save the Seven Princesses of Heart. Will you survive or succumb to the darkness within?
wow i guess i'm interested enough to be #thatguy oops i'm sorry in advance but. tends to happen when i get excited about a site.
i guess first can i ask if we can get a thinner skin? it's really wide on my screen and actually a little obnoxiously so for that reason ;~; i'm lame okay, i hate vertical scrollbars everywhere *sobs*
while the other question thread answered a few of mine, i also wanted to ask why social threads aren't going to be counted towards leveling if they're supposed to be more important than leveling? it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me since you're putting the rewards on the "less important" stuff. maybe if you want to tone down the leveling, you use a larger tier or just adjust for more levels? i think there's actually a level-up plugin proboards offers that has tiered leveling, idk, it's been a while since i messed around in the admin panel so don't quote me on that
i'm not sure if i like the save point then since a) how would you determine where the save point is and b) it's kind of mean to just take the stuff someone's worked hard for simply because they got overpowered. i do really like the suggestion of losing memories though (which is something that's actually introduced in the series log horizon, which i drew super parallels between oops i'm trash throw me out tbeh).
i also think it might be a better idea to temporarily "lock" people at lower levels (which would also solve the potential high level problem) for a few reasons: might be cool to do "training" threads where high level characters can come back and take a level lock (ie they temporarily return to a certain level while in the area and are unable to access their higher level skills) until they leave and have everything restored. it's a pretty common thing actually in a lot of mmos with dungeons, higher level players will hit the level cap and temporarily revert back to a lower level to avoid spoiling it for lower level players or just overpowering the dungeon boss. would also be cool so then quests and such can be repeatable via level caps for even more mmo type feels
okay on an entirely unrelated systems note and a more personal question, i'm wondering more about what kind of interpretation you're looking for on canons? more specifically, i'm super interested in picking up sephiroth (since i play him on a few other things) but i can't play him in his personality post-nibelheim (aka in kingdom hearts verse). so if i took him as part of a gaming group he's been playing with the other ff7 crew and that his account on the game they were playing before got hacked by his little brother and it caused a huge falling out with the rest of them and personality-wise, now that he has his own account again, he's more like how he is in crisis core before the nibelheim incident, would that be okay? and yes i 100% mean personality-wise, the whole thing tl;drs down to "can i play sephiroth not as the giant bag of dicks he is in ff7, advent child, and kh?"
........ replace vertical scrollbars with horizontal scrollbars. vertical scrollbars are good, horizontals are bad.
and training threads as in "old" players teaching "new" players how to kh vr-mmo omg how did i explain the idea for it and entirely miss the whole purpose of getting into it *bangs head against wall*
just put the cone of shame on me now and call it a day tbeh
Pop did the skin, when the v6 update comes out we'll make a new one.
Someone can do a social thread and suddenly be at level 20 without doing any quests. Quests and stuff are not stated as less important, but personal growth in characters is more important then getting more powerful in an rp. RP is about story rather then leveling and having a powerful character. We could possibly put a leveling cap so you can only gain a certain amount of levels in a world? I'll talk to Poptart about that since it's an issue people keep bringing up.
Save points would be the same places they are in KH itself. The save points are just respawn points that you respawn to when you die. I don't think we're taking anything from anyone because they got overpowered. I didn't write anything like that, I don't know if something got changed but the level you're at is what you're at as long as you got their fairly. Anything you gain within the rules is what you have.
Going back to a lower level world I think would just make the monster spawns stronger. Least that's what I feel.
The canon is mostly your decision, but when the game had its opening day they were all locked in meaning they would have no chance for someone to hack them. Having him like he was in crisis core makes sense, but the game has only just begun and they're trapped so no one would have had time to hack his account and get back. Sorry.
Right now that's... not really helpful given there's no release date on v6, so it could come out in another two years just as easily as it could tomorrow. It's really obnoxious to have to scroll over every time I open a page just to be able to read everything, even if it is gorgeous, hence why I asked in the first place. And actually playing with it in inspect element, it's only about 160 pixels too big for my width, but that makes a significant difference since it's the difference between reading everything just fine and having a whole lot of stuff hidden not to mention it probs would deter members who might be in the same boat as me and are turned off by that in a skin.
For the leveling thing, by the same token, people can do a quest thread and be level 20 without doing any social or minimal social. By stating that social threads are more important and then rewarding more for non-social, you're really saying one thing and doing another. While I do agree that it's about a story and not power, it also neglects the possibility of rewarding players for finishing threads and offers more rewards to focusing on questing and grinding. And ignores the potential for a higher leveled character choosing to come back down and have a bonding experience with a character who isn't as leveled by teaching them "okay this is how you kill this type of heartless" or finding old friends they made and helping them catch up. Also if you actually do the math, getting to level 20 requires that you make nearly 100 posts even without tweaking the system, so honestly, it doesn't seem like a huge loss to open it up for socialization too, especially considering that it's probably a better way to deter the min-maxers that like coming around these types of sites and would also help with encouraging later joiners to not be discouraged by higher levels since they can catch up a bit just meeting some people around town until they're confident enough to step out and join in or take some low-level quests. It would also incorporate aspects from games like FFXIV where there's classes beyond combat and these can be improved by methods other than combat or turning in related quests.
The leveling cap you misunderstood. I meant a level cap in the same way a dungeon in an MMO works - if the cap is 20 and you're level 21, you're not kicked out of the dungeon and the monsters aren't suddenly harder to the rest of the party's horror. They aren't even harder if you're level 41. Instead you get temporarily knocked down to 20 and any abilities you learned that have a base above 20 you can't use until you get out of the dungeon and return to your normal level. That way you aren't taking away someone's hard work from the levels and skills, just making sure they can't just "lol what a cute dragon" and one-shot what's supposed to be a mid-difficulty boss for lower level characters. Or conversely potentially overwhelm all the lower-level players in the area just because one high level player came back to a lower-level area while passing through to get to a lower-level friend and as a result suddenly all the monsters in the area are super buffed or there's a super-powerful one Heartless roaming around terrorizing the newbies.
Yeah but you're really kind of vague on the save points. And mentioned losing any items or experience you gained since then, as well as some money. How far apart are these spaced? How does this apply in the roleplay? Do you have to interact with them or is it okay to just be near them? Yeah screw me sometimes I have problems finding those save points and it doesn't seem fair to just leave the option of magically "oh hey I'm low on health uh I'll just put in a save point a few feet from me and save myself" since that sounds super abusable.
Yeah I meant the hacking drama all going down in a different game. Like... I don't know, they were all playing together Runescape or FFXIV before the KH VR MMO came out and they all had agreed to get together there on the KH game. But there was strain on the group since the account got hacked back on the Runescape/FF game so it would be a non-issue on the KH game, just laying background so it's not entirely unreasonable for the group to be able to mistrust Sephiroth if they want to stay closer to the canon relationship. Give them a chance to argue it was him all along while he insists it was the brother.
I'm sorry, right now I can't really help with the skin since I'm crappy at skins...Pop would be your go to person for that.
As for leveling I will discuss with pop and hopefully fix it. Maybe making social threads half the cost of a quest? It was a quick solution so people wouldn't max out so soon by like rapid firing you know? I'm simple stating that social threads are more important story wise but people really dedicated could get to like ten pages by rapid firing a thread about walking to the market you know? (I have seen this happen to be honest, not for leveling but in general). I promise I will do my best to work it out so this issue is resolved. Maybe we could have a point system like have social threads count for this much and certain others count for more?
The level cap makes sense, pop and I already discussed this and it's likely that's how it will be. I believe ffxiv did a similar thing? Stopped playing that a while back. Maybe the mirage arena could be a place for low level people to get quick experience before setting out. Idk just a thought.
So say you're in um...Traverse Town! The only save points would be in the accessory shop, merlins little house, and wherever else there is one in kh1. Same goes for any other worlds, the points would be where they are in the KH games. They're more like respawn points you don't gain hp by touching it. You simply spawn there when you die or go to that world. When you find a new one you simply stand on it or something like that to make that a spawn place for you. No one will be allowed to just make one appear. If you're like miles from a save point and have 1 hp well sorry you're dead, good luck next time.
Your idea for your character is fine and I personally like it.
Honestly, I still don't like post based leveling to begin with. /cough.
I'm going to let you guys hash out the systems things since I'm more concerned about skinning.
Because layouts.
160 PIXELS WAS ALL I NEEDED.
I can make that work.
For anyone with screens even smaller than that, I'm super sorry, but I don't work with percentages other than for board remodels. D: I won't be able to thin the layout down more than that.
Okay skin issue fixed, I'm gonna just dump the idea for the questing here since it's easier to deal with. Level cap is fantastic, I'd maybe do a quick addition on where the save points are for the dumbbutts people like me who aren't as familiar or don't remember where they all are. Curse me for only playing parts of DDD and reCoded.
Basically there would be just levels and they'd be mostly pulled from post-based. Leveling would be everyone starting at level one and when a thread is notified for archiving (whether finished or having to be abandoned from someone leaving), levels are able to be awarded by staff. And to keep it from being a huge secret and being subject to staff favoritism, there would be a little spreadsheet / checklist thing up in leveling that would list what would merit a level (ie reaching a certain word count or post count, maybe with the chance to reset) with chances for a bonus (ie combat bonus, thread completion bonus) or a penalty (ie super large amounts of fluff, godmoding during a boss fight, dropping below word count on a significant basis). Quest "bonus" would be either in money / rare items (thus encouraging them more quietly since there's still a reward for doing them but it's something that evens out since socializing is a way to get money to buy equipment and such out of the shop too). Add in something like, I don't know, a passion fruit being used to automatically gain a level so then it can be both a shop item and a quest reward. I'd also uncap leveling so it's infinite or at least can go until you've learned all the skills since sure complete them if you want (and just nerf that with levels beyond 100 will not gain in stats).
Which the posting equivalents should definitely not be catered towards the speed demons or the skimpy writers since that's how to mess up everyone else. Give them penalties when awarding but generally make your levels and such according to what the average posting level you see or expect and then adjust from there.
It's late and my brains kinda like "shut me down..." so forgive me if I butcher what you're trying to say. But are you saying people gain a certain amount of points for each of those checklist things? Or just gain a level by doing those things? I think a point system would be better, but its always better to hear from others. Like say you get to 100,000 words altogether you get x amount of points or you gain a level?
It'd be something like: You've finished a thread! Mod comes in and awards levels (if any) based on--
If Player X reached at least 5k words at the end of the thread (for someone who is LV1)
If Player X beat up X amount of Heartless (for someone doing a quest or if they ask a mod to spawn them in)
If Player X teamed up with Player Y to find the old lady's cat (yeah that's a quest thing but I'm outta ideas for anything that isn't quest-based. random quests people have to search for? idek.)
No you got me right in just levels. Throw points out the window because the less numbers to track and deal with, the easier it is on members and staff alike, so the only numbers around are money and level. KISS method saves the day. So yeah you can deal with it via things like rounding down wordcount / posts (such as you have 19,999 words and it's 20,000 for four levels, for example, you would round down to awarding three since if word count is between 400 and 500, that's about 40 posts, which is a bit long for a thread) and putting a higher price on the passion fruit (such as 50 posts or something since you don't need to get them in one run). Plus there would be documented penalties in effect and while you can't go negative awards, you can have a bit of control over spam posting, especially if word count and post count both have to be reached to award the level.
The site is done! Maybe! We think we're done, so that's good enough. Advertising is starting up, the maintenance mode has be lifted, and we're now allowing the creation of characters! If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask. However, if you have a long list of questions, we suggest posting in the Questions & Suggestions board located within the Lounge. Please note that we might have forgotten something, so your input is very important!
Quests will begin within the next few weeks. We are allowing members to get situated, make characters, plot it up, and provide input before we begin the progression of the game.
