[attr="id","bio5"]personality [attr="id","bio6"] Teryn is a good man, or at least, as good as he can manage. He is intelligent, calm and rational wheneveer he can be, and he has shown that he is more than capable of following his thoughts to the inevitable conclusion. Raised by an exacting father who alternated in caring nothing for his son and wanting to push him into being among the best, he is quite skilled in understanding computer coding, although he has adapted this for the purposes of gaming as he hopes to become a game designer when he grows up. Perhaps related to the fact that growing up he had few friends until he fell in with the gaming group First Class, he is distinctly loyal to his friends, even in the face of overwhelming discrimination. He may not be quite as honorable as some of his friends, but he still tries to hold up an ideal of fairness whenever possible. [break][break] However, at his core, Teryn is still human and can make mistakes. For example, some would likely say that he is a tad over-attached; while he would respect someone who told him to stay away, the fact remains that he still feels loyalty enough to First Class to stay in spite of the fact that several of the members are now outright hostile towards him. He can be obsessive about something if it fascinates him, shutting out nearly everything else, and in fact, he often would withdraw almost entirely from his social life during the school semester. Although he does hold love for his baby brother, he also is tired of having to look after him constantly and has previously used gaming as a way to escape his responsibilities in providing a steady source of affection. He's also surprisingly quick to give in to the demands of someone he holds deep affection for, especially given how adamant he can be when encountering someone who he is certain is incorrect. [break][break] Teryn, interestingly, has a certain weakness for falling "into character" often when he plays. It was something that they did as First Class, playing through the games in-character, and as a newbie to the idea, he had made Sephiroth originally intending for the elf (as he was played originally) to be himself in the game. However, this tendency will manifest itself occasionally in him showing a tendency to immerse himself within the individual world of the game and forget the exact nature of his life outside, especially once he has hooked up with some of the other members of First Class. If left unchecked, it is entirely possible that he would choose to remain in the game rather than return to the real world; he would not act to remove the choice from others, but he would certainly make no secret of it if he reached this point, and given the nature of his home situation, perhaps it is unsurprising he would grasp so firmly to a world where he not only excels but where he enjoys the benefits of being around people who genuinely care for him. | [attr="id","bio5"]command deck [attr="id","bio7"]Alignment: Neutral[break][break] Starter weapon: Swiftstreak (Nagamitsu) [break] Weapon description: Although not quite as long as some of his, ahem, previous custom weaponry, Swiftstreak is a solid blade that sits well enough in his hand to compensate for the loss of reach. Although it is at times heavier and more unwieldy than Sephiroth would like, the blade has weathered many a battle, and in fact, although rather plain, has been a faithful enough weapon to earn itself a name. Its black hilt can often be seen over Sephiroth's left shoulder, sheathed across his back in black leather, and the iron itself is sturdy to last until he can find something a tad more durable. [break][break] Skill one: Untouchable [break] Cooldown: 1 post [break] Description: Never let it be said that Sephiroth doesn't know how to keep it cool under pressure. Even when born down upon by multiple enemies at once, he maintains his calm, holding his ground with the air of an experienced [break][break] Skill two: Haymaker [break] Cooldown: 1 post [break] Description: Remember that intense calm under pressure? Well, Sephiroth isn't merely capable of blurring out of the way to avoid attacks. Sometimes, if the situation is just right, he's able to dodge the attack and lash out in his own counterattack, usually in a small, subtle wound. Opponents often don't realize that he's harmed them until a moment after the encounter has ended. [break][break] Skill three: Stun Hit [break] Cooldown: 1 post [break] Description: Swift and crafty bladework like this is the sort that can only come from an experienced gamer. Even if Sephiroth is a little rusty, he's more than capable of understanding the weak spots of an opponent. Swift and precise, he will aim his blade there into that spot, and if it connects, it almost certainly will cripple the target for a few moments before they can move once again. | |
[attr="id","bio5"]background [attr="id","bio6"] Real Name: Teryn Ross [break] Hometown: Hell, Michigan [break] Starting World: Twilight Town[break][break] Teryn had every chance in the world and no chance at all as a child. Born to a young woman who loved him very much but was dying of cancer, his deadbeat father - ironically enough, the head of research and development at a prominent technology company - decided that rather than pay child support to support his son, he would rather leave his ex-wife homeless and penniless. Fortunately for Teryn, he remembers nothing of the incident; unfortunately for Teryn, his father faked psychological exams and pulled out all the stops in order to not just gain custody of his son in a nasty dispute that splashed across the pages of the tabloids but also destroyed her financially and worsened her health, to the point where she had to let the case drop since it was putting her life in jeopardy. [break][break] Teryn was only three at the time, and although he was raised well enough by the staff hired on so that his father would never have to deal with him directly, he still remembered a single, distinct moment in his life: the scent of his mother's perfume, light and airy and floral as she hugged him with trembling limbs that seemed so weak and fragile before she let him go and managed the biggest, bravest smile she could manage while the two of them watched through tear-filled eyes as the boy was taken from his mother's side into a car and driven away. [break][break] Of course, his father's feelings for his mother had no effect on the level of ability either had of making wise decisions, in regards to each other at least, and by the time Teryn was five, he was joined in the house by his baby brother. This time, there would be no custody battle for the man to gain custody of his son; the birth had taken a harsh toll upon Teryn's mother, and she died of complications a few days after naming her second son. The two never again got to see her, and in fact, Teryn would never know of her until he was fifteen, by searching through records in order to find her. From that point on, he often visited her grave at the cemetery, cleaning it and quietly talking to it in the hopes of bonding with the woman he never knew. [break][break] The boys were raised by a rotating series of staff members, never quite making a firm enough bond with any of them before they would be replaced with a new face; their father had too much of a liking for wielding his power, and besides, he always could find an excuse for why someone had failed to please him. Teryn soon found himself the object of fixation for his brother, the younger attaching to him and clinging hard, and he tried his best to be the good sibling, to take care of the younger and soften the blow when the questions inevitably came as to whether their father loved them. The toll forced him to age quickly, however, and he was often praised in school as a result for his "knowledgeable manner" and his "quiet demeanor" when really, he often enjoyed the quiet break from the pressure of his brother. Even the stress of his father noticing the trend and pushing him to excell in his schoolwork wasn't enough to displace what little relief he could gain from being away from the clingy, needy child. [break][break] It was in high school that everything changed. He had a preciously small circle of friends, but when he stayed after school one day to finish a test, he ended up meeting a group that would change his life. They called themselves First Class, and although they weren't officially sponsored by the school, it was a well-known thing that they would meet up and play all sorts of video games together. Interested by the game they were playing, a high fantasy dungeoning game called Loveless, Teryn found himself drawn into the club, and soon it became an escape for him, a way for him to shut out the quiet of the house in exchange for the sense of belonging and freedom he would feel with his friends, adventuring and leveling and playing together. His elf, named Sephiroth, soon became one of the more powerful of the group simply because of the free time he poured into the game, and he kept up with it all the way for the rest of his time in high school until he graduated, valedictorian of his class. [break][break] Teryn had been accepted into college on a full-ride scholarship to pursue a degree for computer programming (enforced upon him by his father and only maintained due to a hopeful eventual connection to the gaming industry) when he soon found himself having to drop out of gaming for a while. It would prove to be his undoing as his brother, jealous of the attention that First Class had "stolen" from him, cracked Teryn's passwords and began playing as him instead. Sephiroth began to troll his friends, steal experience and drops from them, abandon them to monsters beyond their skill range, and just in general ruining his prestige and relationship with the rest of the group. It took two years for Teryn to realize what was going on, after a few attempts of changing his passwords and increasingly being too consumed by schoolwork to notice the way the members of First Class would avoid him. [break][break] The fallout was brutal. Even with an apology and an explanation, the members of First Class were divided about how to feel about him. Some accepted his explanation and did not begrudge him for the experience; others called him a liar and held a grudge over the actions his brother had done. Teryn had to shut down his account on Loveless to prevent his brother from worsening the problem, and although he would spend what time he could in the virtual reality games his friends were in, he was often ostracized or forgotten from the group. Needless to say, when a few of his friends who still believed him offered the chance to play a new game, one that promised to be as good as Loveless and without the possibility of another situation with Teryn's brother, he leapt at the chance to regain the trust of the friends he'd once had. He created his character and there, in the username, he put the name of his beloved elf, his legacy. Sephiroth. [break][break] He would regain their faith. This he trusted in. |
